#MsBookworm: Brooklyn Street Style: The No-Rules Guide to Fashion by Anya Sacharow and Shawn Dahl

I am consistently trying to define my style. Some people do lots of soul-searching, I do lots of (Teen) Vogue-searching. Some days I dress like I'm in a 90's sitcom -- think more The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and less Seinfeld -- and others like I've stepped off of a Tommy Hilfiger shoot. I have no consistency because I get bored quite easily. And from time to time I need inspiration that neither Polyvore, nor magazines, nor Instagram, nor Pinterest can provide. I need a book. And this is the one. I've read it once but I've looked at the photos over and over again, and each time I remain in awe at the creativity and the artistry that people take to dress in ways that express their inner selves and suit their unique lifestyles.

My favourite part of the book is that it has tons of suggestions, but only one rule: there are no rules -- which consequently makes it my favourite one. This laid-back approach to style makes it easier to adapt the advice and the looks I've seen in the book, and as a result, it always manages to shake me out of my funk. Within the pages, I get to tap into to a well of ideas, textures, and people that I failed to recognize before. From the pictures to the heartfelt advice, Brooklyn Street Style will have you bringing a little bit of Brooklyn wherever you go.
